Other things

OK, so I've not written much recently. There are many reasons, one of which is the Jodcast, a podcast from Jodrell which has been running for a year now. Writing the astronomy news once a month is quite enough without doing it here as well. I've also been busy with events to mark the 50th anniversary of the completion of the Lovell telescope this year. For two days last week I visited the home of Sir Bernard Lovell and listened to him describe not only the construction and work of the telescope, but all the events that led up to it. This is for the People's Archive, an online collection of interviews with notable people. The interview with Sir Bernard will hopefully be ready by October.

At Jodrell we are planning many public events this year, most of which I'm involved with in some way. The first is a weekend of "Behind the Scenes" tours on the 3rd and 4th of February to mark the occasion when the telescope first moved in azimuth (it only moved a couple of inches on that occasion, but it was still an important event!). This is the reason for the forward scatter meteor experiments. With a bit more work we should have a system up and running which will put live data onto the web, hopefully fairly soon.

Aside from all that, now that my studies are all out of the way I have time for a hobby again!
