All quiet

It's been a busy couple of months since I last posted. I've been applying for fellowships so that I can continue to do public outreach after I finish my studies in a couple of months (no, didn't get either of them, but did get as far as an interview for one of them), doing plenty of public outreach, going climbing with some friends from school, and moving house. Somewhere in there, my thesis has managed to make a bit of progress as well.

Yesterday was the start of the summer "Ask an Astronomer" season and the usual fun trying to get enough volunteers to fill the slots. I did the first one and, what with it being the first day of the school holidays, it was fairly quiet. There were some good questions though, someone wanted to know about time travel which is not a frequently asked question.

One reason for the lack of posts is the small amount of time I've been spending in the house in which I was staying. Living with seven other students is not my idea of fun. So now I've moved out to a nice little flat a few miles away. It's a bit more expensive, but it's so much nicer! The owners are a nice couple, they've done a lot of work on the place since they bought it and done a really good job. Before I left the house, I had a barbecue in the garden and invited a bunch of friends along, as well as the rest of the students. It was a good evening, and I had a lot of fun building a proper fire.

When the th*s!s is out of the way, I might get back to updating this more regularly. There has been plenty going on in astronomy recently, I just haven't had time to read about it.
